Studio Upgrade with Sound Anchors Studio Monitor Stands -A visit to FAME Recording Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

We had the honor of working with legends in the recording industry in a legendary space, FAME recording studio, this past week.

The story begins in 2019 when Glenn Rosenstein and Rodney Hall (son of FAME founder Rick Hall and manager of the studio) partnered on the renovation of Studio B at FAME which included a pair of Sound Anchors ADJ2 (studio adjustable stands) and a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation).

Then last month, I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Glenn Rosenstein by a mutual friend in the business.  After Glenn introduced me to Rodney, they let me know about a new studio space that they are building in Florence, AL, and mentioned needing some support with the project.  After reviewing the requirements we determined they would need ADMID3-56 stands (large adjustable studio monitor stands).  Of course, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to visit this legendary studio.  So, when the stands were ready, we took a little road trip to deliver them in person.

To provide some background, FAME (originally Florence Alabama Music Enterprises) Studios is a recording studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, an area of northern Alabama known as the Shoals. Although they are distant from the main recording locations of the American music industry, FAME has produced many hit records and was instrumental in what came to be known as the Muscle Shoals sound. It was started in the 1950s by Rick Hall, known as the Founder of Muscle Shoals Music. Many famous artists have recorded their hits at FAME studios including the Rolling Stones, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Allman Brothers Band, Donny Osmond, and many more.

Glenn Rosenstein is a record producer, engineer, sound mixer, and guitarist who engineered and produced many albums including the Grammy-winning One Bright Day by Ziggy Marley. Rosenstein worked at New York City's Sigma Sound Studios in the 1980s and is now based in Muscle Shoals, AL, and owns and runs Skylight Studio. As a producer, mixer, and engineer, his projects have won three Grammy Awards, garnered five Grammy nominations, and won both an Oscar and a Golden Globe award.
Rodney Hall is co-owner and president of FAME Publishing and House of Fame Music in Muscle Shoals. For over 25 years Rodney and his brother Mark have owned and run House of Fame and Fame Publishing. He has worked in every aspect of FAME’s business including publishing, administration, production, engineering as well as the marketing and tourism aspects of the historic recording studios. He has worked with such diverse artists as Alicia Keys, The Civil Wars, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Jamey Johnson, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Matisyahu, Clarence Carter, and Alabama.

We arrived in the morning and did a full tour of the famous FAME studio. We got to see our product installations in studio B and spend time where a lot of music history was made.   We met Will O’Rear of FAME Studios who was a great tour guide.

We then traveled over to Florence and assembled the ADMID3 stands with the assistance of the helpful young men from FAME recording studios, Wes Stricklin and Will O’Rear.

Bernie & Wes

Wes and I connected in a unique way. Being originally from Massacuttes I am naturally a Red Sox fan. It turns out Wes, although born and raised in Alabama, is also a true fan and he even named his dog Fenway!

To wrap up the visit, Glenn and Rodney showed us a third space under construction in The Shoals. As they finalize the design we may have an opportunity to work together again. I’m sure Rodney and Glenn will be letting everyone in on what they’re up to soon. Stay tuned!
